Congratulations to Bárður Oskarsson

Congratulations to Bárður Oskarsson

We are proud and honoured to inform you that Bárður Oskarsson's book "Træið" won the Nordic Council Children and Young People's Literature Prize last night at the Prize Ceremony in Oslo. The price money is 350,000 DKK. In November this year it was announced that "Træið" also won The West Nordic Council Children and Young People's Literature Prize, and was listed on the International White Ravens Selection 2018. In 2017 "Træið" was awarded two literary prizes ; MGIP Book Award and the Silver Award from ICMA (International Creative Award for Books).

The book is about the two friends, Hilbert and Bob. Bob the rabbit starts wondering about what might be on the other side of the tree. What could possibly be over there? He has only ventured there once and was chased away by a dog before his curiosity was satisfied. The tree and the thought of the unknown on the other side still lures him, but he’s unsure if he dare go there again. Maybe it’s not even necessary? Maybe Bob can make do with what his well-travelled friend Hilbert says? The story of Bob and Hilbert is illustrated in Bárður Oskarsson’s characteristic minimalist, sensitive strokes. Expansive, almost monochrome surfaces provide space for meditative nuances and focus on the two friends’ expressive body language during their pensive encounter amid the grey humdrum of the everyday, where they sky is the limit and the tree now seems more distant.

Bókadeild Føroya Lærarafelag (BFL) published the book in 2017, and rights have been sold to Denmark, the UK, Slovenia and Italy.
