Rakel Helmsdal nominated for the West Nordic Council's Literature Prize
We are proud to announce that the illustrated children's book "Loftar tú mær"? by Faroese author Rakel Helmsdal has been nominated for the Vestnordisk Råd Children and Young Peopl's Literature Award. Each year one children or young adult book from each member country, Faroe Islands, Greenland and Iceland, is nominated. "Loftar tú mær" is a kind story about losing someone dear to you. It is seen from the perspective of three siblings who grieve the loss of their beloved grandmother. It is not easy to talk about death but sometimes stories and pictures can give you the words needed. Although the story is a bit sad it's also full of life and love, and has a happy end. "Loftar tú mær" is published by BFL, and Rakel has made the illustrations herself, by first creating the figures and scenography and then photographed each page in the storyboard.
The prize money is 60,000 DKK and the winner will be announced at the annual Book Festival in Tórshavn in late november 2020.
