New Poetry Collection: "Opna"

Opna

Sprotin has published a new poetry collection “Opna” (Opening) by Marjun Syderbø Kjelnæs. Marjun has recently worked together with Faroese music artist Eivør on a music production (stage performance and CD) called “At the Heart of the Selkie”. During her collaboration with Eivør, Marjun got inspired by the word “Opna” which in Faroese has multiple meanings; it’s what we call the seal woman, it means an opening of a book and it also means to open. Thus, Marjun has worked around these multiple meanings and divided the book into three main parts; 1. Hope and Wisdom, 2. Time and Faith, 3. Tale and Sense. Here is a tiny opening into the universe of “Opna”:

Her er ein opna, her er hvørt orð, hvør bókstavur, hvørt tekn, eitt far, ein flaki, eitt sprek, at royna at halda sær uppi við.

Here is an opening, here every word, every letter, every sign is a vessel, a raft, a piece of wood, to keep afloat.
