Monsters in Japan

Monsters in Japan

The Children’s book Monster’s Flu (Faroese: Skrímslasótt) has been published in Japan by publisher Yugi Shobo. Shohei Akakura translated into Japanese. This is the third book about the monsters, that he has translated. Big Monsters don’t Cry and Monsters in the Dark are also available in Japanese.

The Monster series is written by Faroese author Rakel Helmsdal, Swedish Kalle Güettler, and Icelandic Áslaug Jónsdóttir. Jónsdóttir also illustrated the books.

The books about the little and the big monster have found a large readership around the world. With these "human" monsters the authors have created particularly funny and interesting characters which children can easily relate to and adults can have fun with. The monsters' relationship with each other is both beautiful and complicated.
