Bárður Oskarsson's The Flat Rabbit one of the Best Books of the 21st Century (So Far)
Renowned American book review magazine Kirkus Reviews has declared Bárður Oskarsson’s The Flat Rabbit (fa. Flata kaninin, originally published in 2011 by Bókadeild Føroya Lærarafelags) as one of the Best Books of the 21st Century (So Far). The magazine first reviewed the English translation of the book (Owlkids, 2014) by Marita Thomsen back in 2014 and has included the book in the list, which was recently revealed.
In their review of the picture book depicting a dog and a rat contemplating what to do with a flattened rabbit carcass on the street, they state:
Oskarsson offers a pleasing vision of the afterlife, as the dog and rat try to give the rabbit a gift—an experience it didn’t have during its lifetime.
Flata kaninin has been translated to over a dozen languages since its release and was notably nominated for the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize in 2014 among other awards.
