Debut Poetry Collection

"Tann lítli drongurin og beinagrindin" (The little boy and the skeleton) is the title of the debut poetry collection by 20 year old Beinir Bergsson. Beinir Bergsson lost his father to cancer and the poems portray Beinir's perception of the process of grief and the challenges he was faced with as a young boy. The book is illustrated by Jan Nystrøm and published by Sprotin.

After my father died I was not able to give voice to my thoughts
but I tried.
I had to see myself in a different light;
the real light was too painful.
Some days I felt like being in a big black void,
other days I was in absentia
and sometimes I was the cancer that killed my father.
I also had cancer, a different kind of cancer.
Nobody saw my illness but me.
My cancer had other symptoms.
It made black holes within me.
It came and went without notice.
