Kim Simonsen to take part in writer's residency in Wales
Literature Wales has announced the names of the 14 European writers, who will participate in the LLIF Residency this May. Among the participants is Kim Simonsen. The two-week creative retreat will take place at the Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre betwen 17-30 May and will focus on themes of ecology, the climate emergency, and community with a specific emphasis on minority languages and dialects. Literature Wales writes that the participants will engage in workshops, open conversations, field trips and creative reflection, before the retreat culminates at the Hay Festival, where the writers will get the chance to network and share their reflections at one of the festival’s public events.
Simonsen’s participation in the residency is a result of a partnership between FarLit and The Representation of the Faroe Islands in London (a member of EUNIC London), with the author suggestion coming from The Faroese Society of Authors. Of his taking part at the retreat, Simonsen states:
During my time at the literary retreat in Wales, I seek to deepen my understanding of how literature can illuminate the connections between humans and the more-than-human world — how storytelling can make us see anew, with greater attention to the unnoticed and the fragile.
In addition to Simonsen, writers from Wales, Switzerland, Catalonia/Spain, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, Hungary and Friesland/The Netherlands will take part in the residency this spring.
