New in Denmark

Jógvan Isaksen’s 2023 crime novel Hvíldarheimið (en. The Rest Home) is now available in a Danish translation by Anya Mathilde Poulsen. Marselius Forlag is the publisher of the new book, which is being released today. This is the tenth book in Danish following Faroese journalist Hannis Martinsson.

Following his knee surgery, Hannis Martinsson ends up at the rest home in Tórshavn, where he must temporarily find his place among the much older residents. During his stay, he hears about a man who was admitted to the same place in 1945 and may have been killed – a man connected to the bombing of the Faroese Parliament in September of 1945.

The calm and safe everyday life at the rest home suddenly changes into a deadly game. One by one, the residents die, while a violent winter storm shuts out the world. Hannis Martinsson must do his utmost to stay alive, all the while struggling to get to the bottom of the rest home's secrets. What is hidden in the past that someone will do anything to keep hidden?

William Hammer, the protagonist in other crime novels by Isaksen, also appears in the book.

The popular Hannis Martinsson book series was adapted for television in 2022 under the title Trom, starring Ulrich Thomsen, Maria Rich and Olaf Johannessen. Isaksen won the 2024 Petrona Award for Best Scandinavian Crime Novel in November 2024 for Dead Men Dancing, the English translation of Deydningar dansa á sandi translated by Marita Thomsen. Isaksen’s crime novels have been translated to several languages, including English, Danish, Icelandic and Norwegian.
