Lygn wins the Readers' Award 2025
Last year, the libraries of the Faroe Islands collectively launched the Reader’s Award, with Høgni Mohr ultimately winning the prize for Saga JAM and receiving 30.000 DKK. Three Faroese books are shortlisted by the libraries, and the public is given the opportunity to vote for their favourite book. The award is then given to the book that has received the most votes.
Yesterday, the libraries announced that the crime novel Lygn (en. Deceit) by Eyðun Klakstein has won the second annual Readers’ Award. Klakstein will receive the award at a ceremony in Runavík library on Wednesday 5 March.
The other two shortlisted books were Sára Malena by Sólrún Michelsen and Vilstar røtur by Ingun Christensen.
The book tells of two acts of crime – and old one and a recent one. After Sára Emmudóttir’s brother suddenly dies, she goes on a mission to uncover the truth about her past, which she has fled from. This leads her to an incident that took place 20 years previously, where a young woman died.
Gallerist Jón Amos receives an unusual assignment from a mysterious person. He is asked to find a distinctive and unknown art piece. Suddenly his life is turned upside down by a horrible incident.
Sára Emmudóttir and Jón Amos must work together when terrifying incidents affect their personal lives. To discover the truth they have to uncover ruthless lies.
Lygn was published in Iceland as Lygin in October 2024 by Ugla útgáfa. Hjálmar Waag Árnason translated the book to Icelandic.
