New genealogical non-fiction

New genealogical non-fiction

Sprotin has published a new non-fiction work that lists deceased persons on the islands of Vágar and Mykines from the 17th century up to the present day.

The two volume-work is titled Fólk deyð, burturgingin og grivin í Vágum og Mykinesi (in English Dead, perished and buried people of Vágar and Mykines) and is an interesting ancestral exploration for genealogy enthusiasts. The work also provides an insight into the local history through its recording of causes of death, name registration and notes on ties to individual places and families.

Kári Thorsteinsson has gathered the material for the book by using both old and modern records, such as censuses, parish registers and literature on the different villages in the area.
