New in Denmark
"Sólgarðurin" - the critically acclaimed poetry collection by Beinir Bergsson has been published in Denmark by Arena with the title "Solhaven" (The Sun Garden).
"Sólgarðurin" is the Faroe Islands’ first explicit collection of queer poetry, and Beinir uses a variety of literary nature that is new to the Faroe Islands. The poems are juxtaposed with youthful, unabashed sexuality, and melancholy reminiscence. In many ways, they are a classic story of growth – and yet not. According to Beinir "Sólgarðurin" is a concrete physical space as well as an abstract mental space. The poems are set primarily in two locations: in the bed in a bedroom where intimacy grows and in the grandmother’s garden where you may connect with nature and the dead.
Beinir Bergsson made his debut in 2017 with the poetry collection "Tann lítli drongurin og beinagrindin" (The Little Boy and the Skeleton) which won him the EBBA Award and has been published in Iceland and Greece.
In the Danish weekly newspaper "Weekendavisen", Linea Maja Ernst describes "Solhaven" as "a quiet nature-erotic triumph". The collection has been translated by Erik Skyum-Nielsen, and the rights have also been sold to Iceland and Greece.
