New in Denmark: Pigen i verden

"Gentan í verðini" is the debut novel by Katrin Ottarsdóttir from September 2020. Danish publisher Lindhardt & Ringhof has now published the novel in Danish with the title "Pigen i verden". The story is about a girl who goes to visit her grandparents during the summer holiday in a small town in the Faroe Islands. The grandparent's household includes the rather eccentric aunt who has not yet moved out, and also, the girl's godmother who is in charge of the housekeeping but apparently has a crush on the grandfather. The girl is quiet but has an inquisitive mind and great skills in observing and wondering about everything, not least the relationships between the four adults in the house. It can be difficult for a girl to comprehend the behaviour of adults, not least when someone without any warning suddenly slams the door, or cries in the room next door, or when the temperamental grandfather for no apparent reason walks out of the house.

The novel was originally published in Faroese by Sprotin, and rights have also been sold to Hungarian publisher Polar Egyesület in Budapest.
