New in the UK

New in the UK

Sólgarðurin Beinir Bergssons’s critically acclaimed poetry collection has now been published in the UK. It is the Faroe Islands’ first explicit collection of queer poetry, and Beinir uses a variety of literary nature that is new to the Faroe Islands. The poems are juxtaposed with youthful, unabashed sexuality, and melancholy reminiscence.

Sólgarðurin is Beinir Bergsson’s second poetry collection. It was originally published by Eksil in 2021 and has also been published in Denmark, Greece and Iceland. It was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2022.

The Suntrap is published by Francis Boutle Publishers in translation by Marita Thomsen.

Marita Thomsen is a translator born in the Faroe Islands. Her translations into English of Faroese and Spanish authors – including poetry, noir fiction, children’s books and plays – have been published in the UK, Canada, US, the Faroes and online. She is a mentor on the National Centre for Writing’s Emerging Translator Mentorship Programme.
