New sequel

New sequel

Some things are true. Others are made up and inspired by true events.”

These are the opening words to Uni Arge’s 2023 book Veðursjúka (literally Weather sickness), as well as its newly released sequel Veðursjúka 2. As the opening words suggest, the book contains both non-fictional and fictional elements that appear to the reader as a collection of essays. The sequel is a continuation of the narrator’s – a middle-aged reporter – acknowledgment of the inevitable effects of climate change and pursuit of understanding the world and our existence.

The text is presented as a continuous chain of narration, commentary and reflection with the weather at the thematical core of the book. Like its predecessor, Veðursjúka 2 also deals with serious subjects that affect not only the Faroese people, but the entire planet, and yet also manages to blend humour and sarcasm into the text. Poetry also plays a prominent part in the book.

The Veðursjúka series is published by Sprotin. The first book in the series was listed in the back catalogue of FarLit’s 2024 Books from the Faroe Islands catalogue, available here.
