Novel released in Denmark
Faroese author Bergtóra Hanusardóttir's novel "Burtur" from 2006 has just been released in Denmark. "Burtur" is her third novel and the first to be translated into Danish. The novel is about the young man Rói who moves from the Faroe Islands to Copenhagen to study engineering. Soon his fiancé Sólja joins him in Copenhagen and eventhough the everyday life as students is nothing out of the ordinary as such, they struggle with homesickness and language and cultural challenges. Bergtóra gives her account of the story of hundreds of young Faroese students who had to move abroad to get a higher education. The novel has been translated by Povl Skårup and published by Amanda Books. The beautiful book cover is an illustration by Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson.
