Novel by Jóanes Nielsen published in Canada and France
The novel "Glansbílætasamlararnir" (2005) by Jóanes Nielsen is now available in French with the title "Les collectionneurs d'images"; it has been published by La Peuplade publisher in Québec, in their "Fictions du Nord" series in cooperation with the International Laboratory for Research on Images of the North, Winter and the Arctic at the Université du Québec à Montréal. The novel has previously been published in Denmark, Norway and Iceland, and is now also available in Canada and, from 8 April, in France. "Les collectionneurs d'images" has been translated by Ines Jørgensen.
The novel, spanning more than forty years, follows the destiny of six boys from the 1952 class of the Sankta Frans school in Tórshavn and is a collective tale portraying each boy, from coming of age and long into their adulthood. The author's accounts of the cultural and social developments in Faroese society work as a backdrop to intertwine the individual stories. With this novel, Jóanes Nielsen offers a masterpiece of life, laughter and tears to Nordic literature.
