New Non-Fiction Book
"Matur - okkara virðismikla tilfeingi" is a new non-fiction book written by the two sisters Gunnhild Dahl Niclasen and Sanna Andrassardóttir Dahl. The aim of the book is to create awareness among children, young people, parents, institutions, and authorities about the impact of our food consumption and give us ideas to what we can do to reduce our food waste and carbon footprint. On the back of the book is says: Did you know that ONE THIRD of all food products in the world end in the bin? That every week, almost SEVEN full dustcarts deliver food waste and leftovers to the garbage incinerators in the Faroe Islands? That we, every citizen in the Faroe Islands, import in average 15 KILOS of beef a year? And that ALL of us can do a lot to reduce the amount of food waste? Food production has great impact on the environment and on climate change. This book will tell you from where the food we eat in the Faroe Islands comes, how we treat the food at home, and what we can do, each one of us, to reduce food waste.
The internationally acknowledged oceanographer Bogi Hansen, says about the book: "It is a highly welcomed book which can make children understand that food should not be taken for granted, and be a lesson for us adults who import almost everything we put in our mouths, or in the bin."
The book is published by BFL.
